TL;DR
Thermal Systems Engineer (Power Electronics): Architecting and operating test infrastructure to validate thermal systems for grid-tied converters with an accent on thermodynamics, fluids testing, and automated data workflows. Focus on designing test rigs, conducting root cause failure analysis, and iterating hardware designs based on physical test results.
Location: On-site in Scotts Valley, USA
Salary: $120,000 – $190,000 per year
Company
is a startup building cutting-edge power electronics to accelerate the electrification of the grid through scalable and innovative hardware solutions.
What you will do
- Execute thermal and fluids testing ranging from component-level characterization to full thermal-system validation.
- Develop test plans and Design-of-Experiments (DoE) to turn hypotheses into crisp pass/fail criteria.
- Design, procure, and integrate test fixtures and rigs using thermocouples, flowmeters, and DAQs.
- Automate test execution, data logging, and post-processing to enable fast iteration loops.
- Drive root cause and failure analysis to isolate mechanisms and validate corrective design fixes.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a background in thermodynamics or fluids engineering.
- Must be based in or able to work on-site in Scotts Valley, USA.
- 2+ years of industry or research experience in a lab environment with proven hands-on experience in test fixture development.
- Proficiency in scripting with Python or Matlab and experience with source control (Github/Bitbucket).
- Experience using various DAQs and sensors (temperature, pressure, flow, anemometers).
- Strong mathematical background for engineering calculations and ability to write detailed technical reports.
Nice to have
- Simulation and modelling experience in CFD, fluid network analysis, or thermal/RC modelling.
- Experience with reliability and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of power electronics and high voltage testing.
- Prior experience shipping products for UL certification.
Culture & Benefits
- Competitive compensation including salary and equity.
- Collaborative, enriching environment conducive to personal and technical career growth.
