Staff Machine Learning Engineer (Mapping): Architecting and delivering end-to-end ML and computer vision pipelines for automated map reconstruction from large-scale sensor data with an accent on scalability, robustness, and multi-modal sensor integration. Focus on designing 3D reconstruction and BEV representations to power next-generation autonomy and localization.

Location: Remote (USA). If the candidate lives within a specific mile radius of a GM hub, they are expected to report to the location three times a week. Relocation benefits may be available.

Salary: $185,100 – $335,300

What you will do

• Architect ML-driven map reconstruction systems using multi-modal sensor data including camera, lidar, and radar.
• Design end-to-end pipelines for offline map reconstruction, covering data mining, labeling, training, and production deployment.
• Define technical strategy for mapping capabilities, balancing ML innovation with safety and operational scalability.
• Implement state-of-the-art CV and ML techniques such as detection, segmentation, 3D reconstruction, and BEV representations.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives with Perception, Localization, and Simulation teams to define data contracts and interfaces.
• Drive technical excellence through design reviews and mentorship of senior and staff-level engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying ML or CV systems in production environments.
• Strong foundation in computer vision, machine learning, or robotics with hands-on model training experience.
• Proficiency in Python for ML development.
• Experience building large-scale ML data pipelines, including dataset curation and labeling workflows.
• Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional technical initiatives with high autonomy.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.

Nice to have

• Experience with AV sensor data (camera, lidar, radar) and real-world data challenges like noise and drift.
• Hands-on experience with 3D perception, BEV representations, or multi-view geometry.
• Exposure to simulation-based validation, synthetic data, or map change detection.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers or acting as a technical lead across multiple teams.
• Familiarity with C++ or other systems languages.
