TL;DR
Lead Quality Engineer (Automotive): Overall planning, direction, and performance of the Quality Engineering team supporting vehicle assembly on Orion-built vehicles with an accent on Vehicle Quality (VOC, warranty, DRR, FTQ) and production floor issues. Focus on dynamically prioritizing team efforts, acting as liaison across Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and VAA partners, and building high-performing organization aligned to BIQ/GMS strategies.
Onsite: Report to Orion Assembly in Lake Orion, Michigan, five times per week at a minimum. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; do not apply if sponsorship needed now or in the future (H1-B, OPT, etc.). Travel <25%. No relocation benefits.

What you will do
- Own strategic direction and execution for Quality Engineering team covering exterior, interior, and chassis systems.
- Dynamically allocate workload to resolve urgent plant, supplier, and VAA issues while managing commodity coverage.
- Lead structured problem solving (Red X, 7 Diamonds, SPPS, 5-Why) on high-impact VOC, DRR, FTQ, and warranty concerns.
- Act as primary liaison between Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and VAA for propulsion, chassis, and ATM content.
- Oversee PRTS documentation, CPIT process, supplier issues, plant change management, and validation activities.
- Drive FTQ improvements, BIQ roadmap, warranty reductions, and supplier cost recovery.
Requirements
- Onsite in Lake Orion, Michigan; no immigration sponsorship.
- Four-year degree in Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in manufacturing, quality, or engineering.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, ideally automotive assembly and/or propulsion/chassis systems.
- Highly developed communication, analytical, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership, team building, and managerial courage.
Nice to have
- Graduate degree in Engineering.
- Prior people leadership experience.
- Quality/Supplier Quality or production floor experience in automotive.
- Experience with automotive product design, propulsion/chassis systems.
- Red X, DFSS certifications; GD&T, body dimensional analysis skills.
