Staff Designer - Visual Identity and Design System: Contribute to the evolution of GM Design Language and creation of cohesive GM Design System across vehicle operating system, web, and mobile platforms with an accent on typography, structure, and clarity. Focus on bridging brand and UI design, translating brand principles into actionable design systems that ensure visual consistency and reflect GM's voice and values.

Location: Hybrid or remote. If living within 50 miles of Austin TX, Sunnyvale CA, or Warren MI, expected to report to office three times a week minimum. Salary: $164,300 - $252,100

What you will do

• Develop and execute cohesive visual systems across brand identity, print, digital, and UI design.
• Create design solutions communicating complex data with clarity and elegance.
• Apply typography skills for consistent brand voice across platforms.
• Design scalable brand systems and visual languages using grid and systems thinking.
• Build design logic and frameworks before visual execution.
• Collaborate with brand strategy, UX teams, and front-end developers for implementation.
• Support and mentor a small design team of 2-3 designers.

Requirements

• 7–10 years professional experience in graphic design focused on information design, typography, brand identity, and design systems.
• Strong portfolio with grid systems, typographic hierarchy, and visual storytelling.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and UI tools like Figma.
• Experience collaborating with brand strategy, UX, accessibility, and front-end teams.
• Deep knowledge of modernist design principles applied to brand systems.
• Systemic thinking, structured design approach, excellent communication, and team mindset.
