Senior Legal Counsel (Fintech)

TL;DR

Senior Legal Counsel (Fintech/ETFs): Managing legal aspects of APAC ETF businesses, including local ETFs and cross-listings, with an accent on regulatory authorizations, fund documentation, and cross-regional coordination. Focus on advising on ETF structuring, liaising with regulators and exchanges, and managing legal risk to align with business objectives.

Location: Hybrid (Hong Kong). Must be based in Hong Kong and work from the office at least four days a week.

What you will do

• Act as the primary legal contact for APAC ETF businesses, including local ETFs and cross-listings.
• Draft and update prospectuses, fund documents, and service provider agreements.
• Prepare and submit applications for regulatory authorization and listings.
• Liaise with regulators and exchanges for ETF-related approvals and inquiries.
• Collaborate with global ETF legal functions in EMEA and the Americas to ensure aligned standards.
• Monitor and advise on regulatory developments affecting the APAC ETF market.

Requirements

• Based in Hong Kong.
• Qualified to practice law in one or more jurisdictions.
• 8+ years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house, specifically within ETFs, funds, or asset management.
• Fluent in English and Chinese (both spoken and written).
• Direct experience engaging with regulators and exchanges in APAC markets.
• Strong stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of UCITS regulations.
• Experience advising on cross-border ETF passporting regimes.
