Director of Engineering, Infrastructure

Director of Engineering, Infrastructure (Kubernetes): Define and execute infrastructure strategy across compute, networking, and storage for autonomous factories with an accent on reliability, scalability, and multi-region high-availability. Focus on architecting Kubernetes platforms, owning SLOs/SLIs, driving cost optimization, and leading teams of platform, SRE, and infrastructure engineers.

Location: Los Angeles, CA. Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required authorizations per ITAR regulations. Relocation support may be provided for certain situations based on business need.

What you will do

• Define and execute infrastructure strategy across compute, networking, and storage.
• Architect and scale Kubernetes platforms for multi-region, high-availability workloads.
• Own reliability and performance of core systems, establishing SLOs/SLIs and incident response standards.
• Drive infrastructure cost optimization across cloud and on-prem environments.
• Lead and grow a team of 12-15 engineers in platform, SRE, and infrastructure.
• Partner with DevOps, Product Engineering, and Security teams; ensure security and compliance.
• Drive multi-region architecture as factories expand globally.

Requirements

• 10-15+ years in infrastructure/platform engineering, including 5+ years in engineering leadership.
• Deep hands-on expertise in Kubernetes: cluster architecture, scheduling, scaling, day-2 operations.
• Strong foundation in compute, networking, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or equivalent).
• Proven track record in designing for reliability, redundancy, failure recovery.
• Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams; Bachelor's in CS or equivalent.

Nice to have

• Deep Kubernetes internals knowledge (control plane, scheduler).
• Experience with service mesh (Istio, Linkerd), multi-cluster/multi-region orchestration.
• Strong infrastructure security best practices; high-scale operations experience.
