TL;DR

Sr Staff Firmware Engineer (Windows Kernel Drivers): Designing and maintaining Windows kernel-mode and user-mode device drivers for high-speed SerDes IPs with an accent on KMDF/UMDF and low-level system stability. Focus on debugging complex kernel crashes, optimizing driver performance, and ensuring Microsoft WHQL/HLK certification.

Location: Onsite in Santa Clara, CA

Salary: $131,010 - $196,300 per annum

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and maintain Windows kernel-mode and user-mode device drivers using KMDF/UMDF.
  • Implement drivers for USB, PCIe, or custom hardware interfaces.
  • Debug complex kernel-mode issues including crashes, memory corruption, race conditions, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with hardware, FPGA, firmware, and validation teams to bring up new devices.
  • Ensure drivers meet Microsoft WHQL / HLK certification requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and define driver development best practices and automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in Windows system or driver development.
  • Strong expertise in C/C++ for low-level systems programming.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Driver Kit (WDK), KMDF, and UMDF.
  • Proficiency with driver debugging tools such as WinDbg / KD and crash dump analysis.
  • Must be eligible to access export-controlled information as defined under U.S. export control laws (EAR).

Nice to have

  • Experience with PCIe, USB, NVMe, or networking drivers.
  • Familiarity with FPGA, firmware, BIOS, or UEFI interactions.
  • Knowledge of Windows security concepts, including driver signing and secure boot.
  • Exposure to Linux kernel development.
