Privacy Intern (Compliance)

TL;DR

Privacy Intern (Compliance): Supporting the maturation of the enterprise privacy program with an accent on GDPR obligation matrices and processing registers. Focus on translating regulatory requirements into actionable documentation and improving privacy governance processes.

Location: On-site in New York

Compensation: $20–$35 per hour (depending on academic level)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain GDPR privacy obligation matrices, mapping obligations to controls, owners, and evidence.
• Review and update Records of Processing Activities (RoPA) and processing register documentation for EU operations.
• Research international privacy obligations and translate requirements into practical program artifacts.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to collect data on processing purposes, data categories, and security measures.
• Identify documentation gaps and propose improvements to privacy governance processes and templates.
• Prepare procedures, playbooks, trackers, and audit-ready evidence files.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a late-stage undergraduate or graduate degree (Master’s or JD preferred) in law, privacy, compliance, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of GDPR concepts, including RoPA, lawful bases, DPIAs, and data transfers.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to produce clear, well-structured documentation.
• Must be based in New York for on-site work.
• Strong written communication and stakeholder coordination skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with international privacy regulations (UK GDPR, U.S. state privacy laws).
• Exposure to DPIAs/PIAs, vendor assessments, and transfer impact assessments.
• Proficiency with structured trackers in Excel or Google Sheets.
• Familiarity with GRC tooling such as OneTrust.
