Focus on leading cross-team initiatives, enforcing engineering standards, and mentoring engineers to ensure systems remain performant and maintainable at scale.

Location: Hybrid in Krakow, Poland - must attend local office two days per week. Extended Stay Program allows up to 90 days outside country of jurisdiction.

Salary: zł304,000–456,000 (Poland annualized base).

What you will do

• Lead architecture, design, and delivery of PHP backend services, owning trade-offs and maintainability.
• Drive full SDLC for cross-team initiatives from discovery to production support.
• Define and enforce engineering standards like testing, CI/CD, and observability.
• Build high-throughput APIs and background systems with strong performance and resiliency.
• Mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and share knowledge through documentation.
• Collaborate with Product, SRE, Data, and Customer Success to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Reduce technical debt via platform improvements and reusable components.
• Participate in recruiting and interviews.

Requirements

• 8+ years software engineering, 5+ years PHP backend in production.
• Expertise in modern PHP framework (Laravel preferred), PHPUnit/Codeception testing.
• REST APIs, background jobs, scalable data patterns.
• Relational DBs (MySQL/PostgreSQL): schema, indexing, optimization.
• Cloud (AWS), Docker, CI/CD.
• Distributed systems, event-driven (Kafka).
• Communication, mentoring experience.
