TL;DR
Exercise Planner (Defence): Developing, coordinating and supporting advanced collective training activities for Australian Army’s Combat Training Centre with an accent on exercise design, organisation, and execution of complex land training. Focus on integrating with planning teams, producing structured planning materials, coordinating inputs, and contributing to activity management and reviews.
Location: Primary at Lavarack Barracks, Townsville, embedded with Core Events; travel to Defence locations including Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, and training areas. NV1 (SECRET) security clearance or above required. Willingness to work in barracks, headquarters, and field environments; up to 15 trips annually.

What you will do
- Integrate with Core Events planning teams to support exercise design and preparation.
- Develop structured exercise planning material, including plans, briefing content, and activity documentation.
- Attend planning meetings, working groups, and training design forums.
- Coordinate planning inputs for scheduling, movement, scenario factors, and activity requirements.
- Support preparation for major training events, including administrative and organisational needs.
- Contribute to activity management during execution and assist with post-activity reviews and improvements.
Requirements
- Experience equivalent to O3–O4 military level (e.g., CAPT/MAJ competence)
- Demonstrated background in military planning at Combat Team to Brigade level or higher
- Experience in staff planning, exercise design, or training support in Army/Defence
- NV1 (SECRET) security clearance or above
- Strong understanding of Army training frameworks, planning processes, and staff systems
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and documentation skills
- Experience in multidisciplinary planning teams
- Ability to use planning and office software; willingness for Defence travel and field work
