Technical Writer (Mortgage/Fintech)

Technical Writer (Mortgage/Fintech): Create and maintain technical documentation for mortgage and fintech systems (LOS, POS, servicing platforms) with an accent on translating complex technical concepts, regulatory requirements, and product functionality into clear, user-friendly content. Focus on developing API documentation, user guides, knowledge base articles, ensuring regulatory alignment, and supporting onboarding through structured materials.

Location: 100% Remote (US-based). Must be eligible to obtain VA Public Trust Clearance. Hours: 40 hours/week with availability during core business hours of 8am-5pm ET.

Salary: $50,000 - $70,000

What you will do

• Create and maintain technical documentation for mortgage and fintech systems.
• Develop user guides, API documentation, knowledge base articles, and training materials.
• Translate complex technical and regulatory concepts into clear, concise content.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, compliance, and business teams on features and changes.
• Ensure documentation aligns with regulations (RESPA, TILA, HMDA, TRID) and maintain standards, templates, style guides.
• Manage documentation lifecycle, versioning, updates, and participate in product releases.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing or equivalent + 3–5+ years technical writing experience (preferably fintech/regulated industries), OR 7+ years experience.
• Ability to obtain VA Public Trust Clearance.
• Strong ability to understand and explain complex technical systems; experience writing API and developer-facing content.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Adobe tools, Confluence, SharePoint, Markdown editors, Git/GitHub/GitLab.
• Excellent writing, editing, communication; manage multiple projects/deadlines; attention to detail.
• Ability to simplify info for diverse audiences; collaborate with technical/non-technical stakeholders; adaptability in fast-paced regulated environments.

Nice to have

• Experience in mortgage, lending, financial services; understanding of mortgage lifecycle.
• Familiarity with MISMO standards, financial data structures, Agile/Scrum, UX writing, CMS platforms.
• Exposure to compliance documentation, training content, AI tools for content, digital mortgage transformation, API-first/microservices.
