TL;DR

IRIS2 Ground Segment IT Infrastructure Engineer (Space Telecom): Provide engineering support for ground IT infrastructure solutions, including scalable containerised applications, datacentre environments, and network architectures with an accent on deployments, reviews, and operational requirements. Focus on LAN/WAN optimisation, hypervisor management, IaC automation with Terraform/Ansible/Docker/Kubernetes, and security/incident response.

Location: Onsite presence at ESTEC (Noordwijk, Netherlands) as required. Must be eligible to live and work in the EU and obtain Personal Security Clearance (PSC) to ESA SECRET/EU SECRET level.

What you will do

• Provide engineering support for ground IT infrastructure, focusing on scalable and containerised applications across multiple environments.
• Support deployments, reviews, and milestones for IT infrastructure aligned with operational and project needs.
• Manage LAN/WAN architectures, including OSPF/BGP routing, VLAN design, VPNs, and end-to-end network performance optimisation.
• Operate datacentre environments with hypervisors (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM), server/storage clustering, and PaaS in multi-tenant setups.
• Deploy infrastructure using IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell) integrated with cloud platforms, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Handle network/platform security, IAM, monitoring, observability, incident response, and ITIL practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar; relevant IT certifications desirable.
• At least 4 years relevant professional experience, ideally international.
• Deep knowledge of scalable/containerised applications, data centre architectures, networking, and system deployment.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and automation (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell).
• ITIL knowledge and certifications as asset; prior space project ground segments as asset.
• Fluency in English (written/spoken); service-oriented, able to coordinate with ESA teams, suppliers, and IT/security.
• Structured, detail-oriented, autonomous; on-site at ESTEC as required.
