What you will do

• Architect and design scalable, high-performance backend systems in AWS, prioritizing reliability and security.
• Maintain hands-on technical contribution (approx. 30% of time) through coding, prototyping, and performance tuning.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives, drive design forums, and establish engineering guardrails.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to define project scope and de-risk iterative releases.
• Own the design of REST and event-driven APIs and microservices, enforcing best practices for versioning and contracts.
• Improve operational excellence by defining SLOs, enhancing observability, and leading incident response.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with large-scale backend systems in production.
• 3+ years of technical leadership experience as a Tech Lead or Manager.
• 5+ years of experience with Golang (preferred) and/or Java.
• Deep expertise in AWS cloud-native architectures (ECS/EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS).
• Proficiency in microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and event-driven patterns.
• Permanent right to work in the UK.
