TL;DR
Intermediate Research and Development Specialist (Applied Research and Prototyping): Designing, developing, and evaluating innovative technologies, processes, and solutions with an accent on applied research, prototyping, modeling, simulation, and experimental validation. Focus on conducting feasibility and risk assessments, solving complex technical challenges, documenting research findings, and supporting technology transfer and intellectual property development.
Location: Remote; multiple locations. Top Secret clearance required.

What you will do
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new technologies, products, and processes.
- Design, prototype, and validate R&D concepts through modeling, simulation, experimentation, and proof-of-concept builds.
- Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for new initiatives.
- Apply technical expertise to solve complex challenges and serve as a subject matter expert in assigned technical domains.
- Prepare and publish research findings, reports, and technical documentation.
- Support intellectual property development, including patents and technology disclosures, while ensuring compliance with organizational, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Requirements
- Top Secret clearance.
- DoD 8140 certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Life Sciences, or a related technical discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in R&D, innovation, or applied research roles.
- Expertise in one or more relevant technical domains, such as software engineering, materials science, biotechnology, data science, or advanced manufacturing.
- Experience with prototyping, modeling and simulation, and experimental design.
- Knowledge of technology transfer, commercialization, or systems integration.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies such as Agile or Stage-Gate.

- Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Life Sciences, or a related technical discipline.
