Principal Mission Architect (Space Systems)

Location: Remote, with required travel to the Mountain View facility for in-person meetings, build, and test. Applicants must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for access to controlled information.

Salary: $170,000–$243,000 per year, plus incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop complete space mission concepts based on customer needs.
• Perform mission-level analyses and own top-level mission budgets.
• Define requirements and designs for missions and RF and optical instruments.
• Use software tools and code to evaluate engineering trade studies and system design questions.
• Evaluate spacecraft performance and constellation configurations.
• Coordinate with engineers and scientists to ensure mission objectives are met.

Requirements

• At least a bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field and 12 years of space mission experience; relevant advanced degrees may count toward experience.
• Experience with spacecraft design and space mission design.
• Software skills in one or more of Python, Julia, MATLAB, C, or C++.
• Strong communication, presentation, and coordination skills.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled information under applicable U.S. Government regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience with visible, infrared, and radio-frequency instruments.
• Experience supporting science teams in mission development.
• Experience designing spacecraft constellations or supporting spacecraft and constellation operations.
