TL;DR

Policy Counsel (AI): Supporting public policy and legal initiatives at the intersection of AI technology and regulation with an accent on AI governance frameworks and evolving regulations. Focus on providing legal analysis, drafting policy positions, and collaborating with technical teams to promote responsible AI development.

Location: Must be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time.

Salary: $205,000 - $265,000 USD

What you will do

  • Support the development of AI governance frameworks that align with evolving regulations, industry best practices, and global standards.
  • Monitor and analyze emerging legislative and regulatory developments related to AI.
  • Provide legal analysis and advice to the External Affairs team and other Public Policy stakeholders.
  • Partner with Public Policy and technical teams in developing practical policy guidance informed by a deep understanding of our products.
  • Assist in drafting policy positions and proposals and advocacy materials.

Requirements

  • A JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred).
  • At least 3 years of relevant legal experience, ideally with exposure to policy, regulatory, or government affairs work.
  • Strong interest in AI/ML policy, data privacy, copyright, technology regulation, or related areas.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work through ambiguous policy questions.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with ability to make complex legal and technical concepts accessible.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach and ability to work effectively across numerous diverse teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience working on complex technology policy issues in government, at a tech company, law firm, or policy organization.
  • Familiarity with U.S. legislative and regulatory processes, including experience with federal or state advocacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand AI concepts.
  • Experience drafting policy positions, comment letters, or regulatory submissions.
  • Interest in government affairs matters.
