Lead Network Architect (Energy Storage)

TL;DR

Lead Network Architect (OT/ICS): Designing and standardizing secure Operational Technology network architectures for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with an accent on scalability, resilience, and industrial control system integration. Focus on implementing IEC 62443 segmentation, securing SCADA/BMS connectivity, and leading cross-functional architectural decisions for global deployments.

Location: Hybrid (4 days in office); Must be based in Erlangen, Germany

What you will do

• Design and maintain enterprise and OT network architectures supporting BESS platforms and deployment sites.
• Implement network segmentation models aligned with IEC 62443 zones and conduits architecture.
• Support networking for SCADA, PCS, BMS, and other industrial control systems.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to network engineers while collaborating with cybersecurity and controls teams.
• Evaluate and select network hardware, software, and service providers to meet performance and security requirements.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for network incidents affecting production environments.

Requirements

• 12–16+ years of experience in network engineering and architecture.
• Deep expertise in Cisco networking (Nexus, Catalyst, ASA/FTD/FMC) and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, VRF, NAT).
• Proven experience designing networks for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and SCADA environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Networking, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Must be based in or able to work from Erlangen, Germany (4 days per week in office).

Nice to have

• Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or grid infrastructure.
• Experience with AWS networking or hybrid cloud architectures.
• Familiarity with Linux networking and automation tools like Ansible, Python, or shell scripting.
• Certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, JNCIE, or JNCIP.
