TL;DR
Specialist Controls Engineer (PLC/HMI): Defining control system architectures and leading complex PLC, HMI, and material handling automation programs with an accent on reusable standards, system integration, and commissioning. Focus on designing large-scale controls solutions, validating integrated systems, mitigating project risks, and mentoring engineers across concurrent programs.
Location: Remote within the United States; hybrid for employees located in Atlanta, Georgia, Irving, Texas, or Charlotte, North Carolina, with three days per week in the office. Domestic travel of up to 60% is required.

What you will do
- Define and maintain control system architectures, standards, best practices, reusable code libraries, and modular design approaches.
- Lead the design, development, deployment, and commissioning of complex PLC and HMI systems for material handling applications.
- Provide technical oversight and lead design reviews for large-scale and high-risk projects, integrating controls, interfaces, and third-party equipment.
- Lead controls engineering scope across concurrent projects and programs, including risk mitigation, estimates, proposals, resource planning, and budget management.
- Oversee system validation, integration testing, site acceptance testing, documentation, and quality standards.
- Improve engineering and commissioning efficiency, support escalated troubleshooting, collaborate with stakeholders, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, mechatronics, or a related field, plus 10 years of controls engineering experience in material handling, automation, or a related industry.
- Advanced proficiency with Rockwell Automation platforms, including ControlLogix, GuardLogix, and Studio 5000, and Siemens platforms, including TIA Portal and S7.
- Advanced knowledge of industrial networks such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and safety networks.
- Strong experience with control system architecture, integration, material handling systems, HMI/SCADA development, testing, and quality assurance.
- Proven ability to lead technical direction and manage scope, schedules, budgets, and stakeholders across multiple concurrent projects or programs.
- Must be legally authorized to work full-time for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

- Master’s degree in a related engineering discipline.
- Certified Automation Professional or TÜV Functional Safety Engineer certification.
