Lead Engineer (Data/Integrations)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, with 3 days per week in the Financial District office

Salary: $200K–$250K annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and implementation of integrations with healthcare payer systems, including claims feeds, utilization management data, eligibility files, and provider rosters.
• Build a reusable payer integration framework that makes onboarding national and regional health plans faster and more reliable.
• Design fault-tolerant data pipelines processing millions of claims records for AI/ML systems, analytics dashboards, and behavioral health quality and cost analysis.
• Develop normalization layers that translate payer-specific formats into a unified data model.
• Build monitoring, reconciliation, alerting, and data quality systems that detect feed disruptions and schema drift.
• Establish engineering practices, technical foundations, and AI-assisted development workflows for a growing data engineering team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of data engineering experience, including significant work with healthcare payer data such as claims, utilization management, and eligibility.
• Experience leading engineering teams as a tech lead or engineering manager.
• Experience with or willingness to learn payer data formats and exchange methods including EDI X12, HL7, FHIR, and custom flat files.
• Strong system design skills, including defining requirements, test scenarios, and acceptance criteria for complex data systems.
• Hands-on ability to architect robust systems, establish engineering best practices, and deliver production code.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating claims or utilization management platforms such as QNXT, Facets, Amisys, Jiva, or CareRadius.
• Experience with behavioral or mental health claims data, behavioral health carve-outs, BH-specific CPT codes, or quality measurement.
• Experience building AI/ML data infrastructure, including feature pipelines, training data preparation, and model monitoring.
