Lead Software Engineer (AI/Defence)

Location: Must be based in the UK and eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC). Position requires 2-4 days per week on-site at customer locations throughout the UK; remote work is permitted when not on client sites.

What you will do

• Lead and mentor a squad of engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable software.
• Design and build complex backend and edge/IoT components for client deliverables.
• Implement CI/CD processes and containerization strategies using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Develop and maintain production-ready code in Python and compiled languages like Rust, C++, or Go.
• Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists to integrate AI capabilities into system architectures.
• Translate technical concepts into actionable insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Must have the right to work in the UK and be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
• Extensive experience in application development and modern system architecture.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one compiled language (Rust, C++, or Go).
• Proven track record of shipping production code to clients.
• Strong experience with DevOps tools including GitLab CI/CD and Docker.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder management and client relationship building.

Nice to have

• Previous experience in defence or high-stakes AI project environments.
