AI Engineer (HR Automation)

Location: Remote within the United States

Salary: $127.2K–$254.4K annual base salary, excluding bonus, equity, wellness allowance, and other benefits.

What you will do

• Architect and build production agentic workflows for hiring, onboarding, learning, rewards, and other People Operations processes.
• Develop multi-agent systems with tool use, function calling, and multi-step reasoning across Workday, ATS, payroll, ticketing, and other HR platforms.
• Implement error handling, audit trails, payroll-calendar awareness, approval gates, access controls, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
• Classify automation builds by risk tier and stop or redesign systems that create unacceptable payroll, legal, or privacy risks.
• Create documentation, workflow templates, and runbooks, then train People team members to maintain and adopt the deployed tools.
• Measure automation impact through hours saved, error reduction, avoided payroll exceptions, and increased capacity for strategic HR work.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years building AI/ML-powered applications or agentic systems in production.
• 2–3+ years working with HR, People Operations, or people technology workflows.
• Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and driving adoption of production AI-powered or automated workflows.
• Deep knowledge of Workday, including job changes, worker conversions, EIB uploads, integrations, and payroll dependencies.
• Proficiency with n8n, Python, Claude API or Anthropic SDK, MCP, or equivalent tools; experience connecting HR systems through APIs is required.
• Understanding of employee data classification, PII handling, cross-jurisdictional HR compliance, HR analytics, and automation governance.

Nice to have

• Experience with Workday Prism, Qualtrics, Ashby, HR analytics tools, spreadsheet automation, Excel, and Google Sheets.
• Python or R skills for people data analysis, modeling, or pipeline automation.
• Experience administering HRIS, ATS, survey, or workforce management platforms.
• Experience establishing or operating an HR automation or people analytics function.
• Experience in fintech, crypto, or a high-growth remote-first company serving employees across 50+ countries.
