Backend/AI Engineer (Python)

What you will do

• Integrate and optimize LLM calls for structured extraction, form filling, and document understanding.
• Improve API design and preprocessing algorithms, including chunking and structured extraction.
• Build and scale document processing pipelines for PDFs, spreadsheets, forms, tables, graphs, and images.
• Experiment with output structures and new techniques to improve LLM accuracy and reduce latency.
• Build internal tooling and evaluation systems to analyze failure cases.
• Work directly with founders and customers to shape product direction and engineering strategy.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience building real-world applications and integrating LLMs into production systems.
• Exceptional Python skills.
• Quantitative approach to product development, with strong debugging, experimentation, and rapid iteration skills.
• Ability to work across the full development lifecycle, from ideation through shipping.
• Ability and willingness to work in person at the San Francisco office.

Nice to have

• Experience founding a company or building products at an early stage.
• Experience with prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or AI agents.
• Active interest in the latest developments in machine learning and AI.
