Senior Software Engineer, Backend Development (Playable Ads) (AI)

Location: Based in Tokyo, Japan or Taipei, Taiwan. International candidates may relocate to Japan with visa sponsorship through the Japan office.

What you will do

• Architect and develop scalable backend services and APIs with ASP.NET Core, owning projects from system design through production operation.
• Design database schemas and optimize data access across SQL and NoSQL stores.
• Implement reliable, fault-tolerant message-driven communication and scalable microservice architectures.
• Build and maintain MLOps pipelines for model versioning, deployment, serving, and monitoring in partnership with ML scientists.
• Lead system design and technical roadmap decisions, mentor team members, and collaborate with frontend engineers and product managers.
• Improve performance, observability, incident management, CI/CD, deployment workflows, and production reliability.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in C# and ASP.NET Core, or experience with Java or Go and willingness to learn the .NET stack.
• Proven experience with distributed systems, microservices, and scalable backend architecture.
• Hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or equivalent SQL/NoSQL databases and ORM frameworks such as Entity Framework Core.
• Advanced knowledge of message brokers such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or NATS, plus asynchronous programming, threading, parallelism, and I/O-bound operations.
• Practical experience with Docker, cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and production operations.
• Fluent English required; Japanese proficiency is not required.

Nice to have

• Experience with MLOps, model serving infrastructure, A/B testing, or ML pipeline orchestration.
• Leadership experience through mentoring, code reviews, or agile process facilitation.
• Experience with performance profiling, debugging tools, high-performance network services, or FFI integrations.
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science or a related field.
