External Communications Manager (AI Research): Driving external storytelling for hirify.global's research and model training work with an accent on making frontier AI research and safety work more accessible and meaningful to journalists, policymakers, the research and safety community, and the public. Focus on crafting compelling narratives, translating complex technical concepts, and building relationships with key science and technology journalists.

Location: New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA. Expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time.

Salary: $185,000 - $255,000 USD

What you will do

• Develop and execute communications strategies across our research portfolio, including interpretability, alignment, model welfare, and model training.
• Lead launch moments for major research publications, papers, and milestones, owning the narrative, media strategy, and cross-functional rollout.
• Create thought leadership opportunities for research executives.
• Build and maintain relationships with key science and technology journalists and influencers in the AI and ML space.
• Serve as a trusted comms partner to research leads and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience working in communications, ideally with significant time spent on science, research, or deep-tech storytelling.
• A strong record of building proactive communications campaigns around technical or scientific work that resonated with a diverse range of audiences.
• Excel at translating complex technical concepts into compelling messaging.
• Excellent at media relations with reporters who cover tech, science and research.
• Experience working directly with researchers, scientists, or engineers.
• Comfortable operating in areas of genuine uncertainty.
• At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in science communications, academic research communications, or deep-tech comms.
• Experience building executive brand and thought leadership programs.
• Background working directly with research teams, academic labs, or R&D functions at a technology company.
• A track record of launching research papers, scientific findings, or technical reports to press and public.
• Familiarity with the AI safety and alignment landscape.
