What you will do

• Lead the development of scalable billing infrastructure, including payment gateways, subscription lifecycles, and invoicing systems.
• Drive integrations with external platforms such as payment processors, tax engines, and CRM systems with a focus on API design and production reliability.
• Implement and champion AI-first development practices to improve velocity, quality, and architectural decision-making.
• Collaborate with product, finance, and sales leadership to shape roadmaps and translate business goals into technical execution.
• Manage team health by fostering a culture of ownership, setting clear career paths, and providing actionable performance feedback.
• Ensure platform excellence through robust observability, incident response ownership, and adherence to security standards like PCI-DSS.

Requirements

• 7+ years in software engineering and 5+ years in a leadership role managing engineering teams.
• Proven experience with billing, payments, or fintech systems.
• Strong technical background with Java, Spring, React, and relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, AWS, and distributed systems architecture.
• Demonstrated ability to improve DORA metrics, MTTR, and overall team delivery performance.
• Must be based in or able to commute to Waltham, MA or Ontario, Canada for hybrid work.

Nice to have

• Experience with PCI-DSS compliance and defense against authentication threats.
• Fluency in modern AI tooling (Cursor, Copilot, Bugbot, Claude Code) for software development.
