Java Developer (Backend): Design, develop, and enhance Java-based applications and APIs supporting VR&E case management and integration needs with an accent on building secure, scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices patterns. Focus on integrating VR&E systems with enterprise VA services and leveraging cloud services for application deployment.

Location: Fully remote located within CONUS United States

Salary: $95,000 - $105,000 Annually

What you will do

• Design, develop, and enhance Java-based applications and APIs supporting VR&E case management and integration needs.
• Build secure, scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices patterns.
• Integrate VR&E systems with enterprise VA services such as MPI, VA Profile, BGS services, and REST/SOAP endpoints.
• Develop and deploy applications within AWS using EC2, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, SQS/SNS, Lambda, and related services.
• Write PL/SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and views for Oracle/PostgreSQL databases and develop scripts using Bash, Curl, or Python.
• Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, or a related discipline or commensurate experience.
• 5–8 years of professional software development experience and 3+ years with Java/JDK, including Spring or Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with external services using JSON/XML.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Maven, GitHub, and Nexus.
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Ability to obtain a Government Public Trust clearance.

Nice to have

• Understanding of Federal security frameworks (FISMA, NIST 800-53).
• Experience supporting Tier II/III production operations.
• Knowledge of DevOps principles and automated testing.
• Troubleshooting cloud-hosted distributed systems.
