TL;DR
Software Engineer (AI): Building and scaling core platform systems, including product experiences, backend services, infrastructure, data systems, AI-powered features, and marketplace/recommendation systems with an accent on system design, reliability, and performance. Focus on architecting scalable backend services, improving intelligent product capabilities, and leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept to production.
Location: This is a hybrid role, requiring onsite presence three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from our San Francisco, Seattle or New York hub locations. Travel 2–3 times per year (e.g., company and department offsites) is also expected.

What you will do
- Define and evolve the technical vision for critical product and platform systems.
- Architect scalable, reliable backend services that support high-volume workflows and transactions.
- Design and improve systems related to search, matching, personalization, recommendations, or other intelligent product capabilities.
- Continuously improve core user flows to reduce friction and increase reliability and performance.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Operations to translate user and business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar for technical quality, clarity, and execution.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience building and operating backend systems at scale.
- Strong system design and architectural thinking.
- Track record of delivering complex, ambiguous projects across multiple stakeholders.
- Product mindset – deep care about user experience and business impact.
- Data-driven approach to experimentation, measurement, and optimization.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
