What you will do

• Drive department-wide technical discussions and improve engineering practices.
• Ensure architectural consistency, high quality, and establish best practices for the organization.
• Coordinate with engineering and product leads to define, prioritize, and task projects for business objectives.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, pairing opportunities, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, analytics, support, product) to understand and solve problems.
• Advise engineering leadership on key initiatives, technical gaps, and blind spots.

Requirements

• 11+ years experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline, with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software.
• 5+ years experience in people management.
• 6+ years experience with troubleshooting across network, application, caching, queuing, load-balancing, storage and distributed services layers.
• 6+ years experience in one or more of the following domains: kernels, networking, compilers, software development tools, databases, HTTP, virtual machines, containers, or security.
• Proficiency in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Excellent written communication skills and ability to work asynchronously with global teams.

Nice to have

• Prior experience migrating from data center to cloud infrastructure.
• Experience designing large scale cloud services and distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
• Understanding of production system monitoring and observability.
• Ability to think critically about both system design and software engineering concepts and blend those perspectives pragmatically based on project needs.
