Senior Manager, SRE- PKI

TL;DR

Senior Manager, SRE (PKI): Leading and optimizing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) operations for global trust services with an accent on secure, scalable, and highly available architectures. Focus on driving operational readiness, compliance programs, and advanced automation for Tier 0 systems.

Location: This is a hybrid position. You’ll divide your time between working remotely from your home and an office, so you should live within commuting distance of Phoenix, Arizona. This position is not eligible to be performed in Alaska, Mississippi, North Dakota, or the Virgin Islands, and hirify.global is not currently considering candidates for this role in California, Seattle, or NYC.

Salary: $140,000–$273,000 (USD) based on location and qualifications.

What you will do

• Drive long-term PKI platform strategy and infrastructure scaling to ensure secure, globally scalable, and highly available services.
• Own and execute operational readiness and compliance programs, including high-assurance PKI ceremonies and security audits.
• Engineer near-zero-downtime operations for Tier 0 systems through advanced automation, observability, and incident response.
• Mentor and develop SRE talent by coaching engineers to elevate technical depth, operational judgment, and reliability ownership.
• Lead cross-functional technical projects spanning SRE, Security, and Infrastructure teams, translating strategic goals into executable workstreams.

Requirements

• 8+ years in Site Reliability, Systems, or Security Engineering, supporting Tier 0 or trust-critical services.
• Proven experience in certificate lifecycle management and PKI frameworks.
• Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional technical projects with a strong background in automation and observability.
• Experience leading and developing SRE teams with strong stakeholder management and cross-team influence.
• Proficiency with configuration management tools (Salt, Ansible), Linux systems, containerization, and scripting in Bash, Python, or Go.
• Deep understanding of PKI frameworks, TLS protocols, applied cryptography, distributed systems, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, NIST, PCI).

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) in enterprise environments.
• Experience working with public or private Certificate Authorities.
• Experience working in datacenter environments during high-pressure situations.
• Background participating in or leading security audits and compliance assessments.
• Industry certifications related to security, infrastructure, or reliability engineering.
