Principal AI Scientist (Agentic AI/Reinforcement Learning)

TL;DR

Principal AI Scientist (Agentic AI/Reinforcement Learning): Leading research and development in Agentic AI systems and Reinforcement Learning with an accent on designing intelligent agents capable of autonomous decision-making and planning. Focus on integrating large-scale foundation models with RL and pioneering adaptive, goal-driven AI behaviors for next-generation products.

Location: Hybrid in Seattle, Washington, United States. You must live within commuting distance of Seattle. This position is not eligible to be performed in Alaska, Mississippi, North Dakota, or the Virgin Islands.

Salary: $215,000.00 – $323,000.00 (USD) annually for Group 4. Other US groups offer lower ranges.

What you will do

• Lead research and development of advanced Reinforcement Learning algorithms (policy optimization, hierarchical RL, multi-agent RL).
• Design and implement agentic architectures for autonomous reasoning, planning, and sophisticated tool use.
• Pioneer the integration of Large Language Models with Reinforcement Learning to create adaptive, goal-driven AI behaviors.
• Formulate hypotheses and conduct large-scale experiments to continuously improve agent performance and capabilities.
• Build sophisticated simulation environments for testing agentic behaviors and reward strategies.
• Partner with product and engineering teams to translate breakthrough research into production-ready AI solutions.

Requirements

• Must live within commuting distance of Seattle, Washington, United States.
• English: B2 proficiency required.
• Strong background in both machine learning/NLP and software development with hands-on Deep Neural Network experience.
• Proven expertise in Reinforcement Learning algorithms and autonomous agent design.
• Advanced algorithm design and programming skills in low-level languages (C++/Java) and scripting languages (Python/R/Scala).
• Experience working with live data (cleaning, visualization, and modeling) and distributed computing frameworks (Hadoop/Spark).

Nice to have

• PhD in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field with a focus on Reinforcement Learning.
• Publications in top-tier AI/ML conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, ACL, etc.).
• Experience with multi-agent systems and game-theoretic approaches, or integrating foundation models with traditional RL frameworks.
