Applied Scientist (Generative AI): Building and owning production machine learning models to improve results with an accent on working hands-on with SOTA generative models and finding insights on large-scale data. Location: Redmond, United States. Employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. are expected to work from the office at least four days per week.

Salary: USD $100,600 – $199,000 per year.

What you will do

• Build and own production machine learning models to improve results.
• Work hands-on with SOTA generative models like Qwen, Llama, Mistral, and GPT.
• Find insights and form hypotheses on large-scale data using ML, feature engineering, and data mining techniques.
• Design experiments, understand resulting data, and produce actionable conclusions.
• Wrangle large amounts of data using various tools and programming languages, including Python, C#, R, C++, Java, and SQL.
• Take complex problems and associated data to assist senior executives in making key business decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research).
• OR Master’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience.
• OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check is required upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years, Master’s Degree with 3+ years, or Doctorate with 1+ year related experience.
