Backend / Infra Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote in North America or Austin, Texas

Salary: $140K–$200K per year, plus 0.05%–0.20% equity.

What you will do

• Own and scale core TypeScript/Node.js and Python services orchestrating real-time voice agents.
• Scale the platform to support 10,000+ parallel calls with 99.99% uptime, deterministic behavior, and graceful degradation.
• Harden ingestion, evaluation, and analytics pipelines for telephony events, recordings, and outcomes.
• Improve observability with OpenTelemetry, SigNoz, and trace-first production practices.
• Partner with product to ship LLM-driven behaviors with success metrics, guardrails, and regression protection in CI.
• Maintain CI/CD, environment automation, and incident response playbooks.

Requirements

• Senior or staff-level experience operating distributed backends with real-time or streaming constraints.
• Fluency in TypeScript/Node.js and working experience with Python for ML or audio workloads.
• Experience with Temporal or similar workflow engines, queues, Redis, and PostgreSQL.
• Production experience building LLM applications, including prompt and tool design, evaluations, and guardrail instrumentation.
• Cloud-native experience with AWS and Terraform; Kubernetes experience is expected.
• Ability to independently investigate incidents, work directly with customers, and maintain a high quality bar.

Nice to have

• Experience building real-time systems in telecom, networking, autonomous vehicles, or high-frequency trading.
• Experience founding a company or building AI voice applications.
• Power-user experience with Cursor, Zed, or Devin and modern code-generation workflows.
