Staff Software Engineer (AI/LLM)

Location: Remote Eligible within the US. Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Salary: $204,000–$255,000 USD

What you will do

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop backend systems and enhance AI prompt effectiveness.
• Drive technical vision and strategy for workflow and backend optimization.
• Lead and contribute to the full development cycle: design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Participate in code and design reviews, providing constructive feedback.
• Optimize system availability, performance, and scalability.

Requirements

• 9+ years of software development experience in service-oriented architectures and backend development.
• Expertise in workflow optimization and scalable backend systems.
• Expertise in designing and iterating on prompt engineering for AI/LLM-driven scenarios.
• Expertise in RAG patterns, memory routing, agent planning, and integrating LLMs with APIs, vector databases, and orchestration frameworks.
• Proficiency in crafting backend systems focusing on technical quality, efficiency, and resilience.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
