Location: New York, United States. Starting January 26, 2026, employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) of that location.

Salary: $158,400 – $304,200 USD per year

What you will do

• Improve model quality for interactive and agentive experiences using subject matter expertise.
• Oversee data acquisition or generation efforts, ensuring data meets model needs.
• Generalize machine learning (ML) solutions into repeatable frameworks.
• Lead evaluation efforts of models, including those deployed within Microsoft products and the Cloud API.
• Track advances in industry and academia, identifying relevant research, and adapting techniques for innovation.
• Write efficient, readable, extensible code and model pipelines independently.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Experience prompting, evaluating, and working with large language models.
• Experience writing production-quality Python code.

Nice to have

• Doctorate in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Human-Centered AI or related field with 2+ years experience.
• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field with 5+ years experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, Physics, or related field with 7+ years data-science experience.
• Demonstrated engineering or research experience (e.g., creating features, complex graduate work, research papers).
• 4+ years of data science experience.
