What you will do

• Lead backend development and modernization of Laravel PHP monolith projects end-to-end.
• Mentor and coach junior developers, fostering technical excellence and best practices.
• Embed automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and code quality processes.
• Collaborate with leadership and NHS stakeholders to deliver mission-critical healthcare features.
• Drive DevOps maturity by automating deployments and monitoring systems.
• Ensure platform stability, security, and performance optimization of MySQL and MSSQL databases.

Requirements

• Must have 7+ years PHP experience with Laravel knowledge
• Leadership mindset with mentoring and process improvement skills
• Experience with upgrading legacy PHP codebases and modern tooling
• Strong database skills including query optimization and large-scale architecture
• Comfortable with DevOps, AWS services, and networking basics
• Strong communication skills for external stakeholder engagement

Nice to have

• Experience with NHS integration protocols (FHIR, HL7, CIS2, EPS, etc.)
• Familiarity with robotic automation systems and physical device integration
• Desktop app development with Electron
• Experience with CI/CD setup and deployment automation
• Observability tooling like Sentry or NewRelic
