Senior Software Engineer (PHP)

Location: Must be based in the UK; hybrid work with attendance at the Saltaire office a couple of days per week.

Salary: £50,000–£65,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop clean, maintainable, and well-tested PHP back-end systems with Symfony.
• Own and improve business-critical platform components, including legacy codebases.
• Contribute to architecture, refactoring strategies, technical standards, and long-term maintainability.
• Improve tooling, testing, automation, developer workflows, and code quality.
• Mentor developers through code reviews and technical discussions.
• Collaborate with delivery managers, testers, designers, and frontend developers while communicating technical risks and trade-offs.

Requirements

• Must be based in the UK.
• Strong experience with PHP, object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, design patterns, and clean code.
• Hands-on experience with Symfony and legacy-system improvement.
• Solid experience with MySQL and relational data modelling.
• Experience building and consuming APIs, with a focus on testing and quality.
• Experience with Docker, Git, PHPStan, PHPUnit, and CI/CD.
