Principal Software Engineer (.NET, PHP, Umbraco, Drupal)

Salary: £65,000–£75,000 per year

What you will do

• Provide technical authority across multiple client platforms, hosting environments, and codebases.
• Shape new opportunities through technical qualification, discovery, solution design, and estimation.
• Lead architecture for large and complex client projects across .NET, Umbraco, PHP, and Drupal.
• Act as the senior escalation point for live incidents, diagnosing unfamiliar systems and directing remediation.
• Make pragmatic hosting, infrastructure, security, and platform decisions with long-term maintenance and cost in mind.
• Mentor lead and senior engineers while raising engineering standards, governance, and software delivery practices.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Umbraco and .NET, as well as Drupal and PHP.
• Expertise designing robust, scalable, secure architectures for content-managed platforms, integrations, and modern web applications.
• Practical Azure cloud engineering experience, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and managed hosting environments.
• Experience with API design and integration using REST and GraphQL, including CRM, payment, and marketing systems.
• Knowledge of security by design, DevSecOps, accessibility standards including WCAG 2.2+, version control, release management, and Agile delivery.
• Proven ability to lead technical discovery, resolve complex incidents, communicate with non-technical stakeholders, and develop senior engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with headless or decoupled CMS architecture, OAuth, SSO, and search implementation.
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering, agentic tooling, or AI-enabled development workflows.
• Background in the charity, non-profit, membership, or visitor sector.
