Senior Systems Engineer, Pipelines (Rust/C++)

Location: In-office in Austin, Texas; Seattle, Washington; or London, UK

Salary: $185,000–$254,000 annual salary for hires in New York City, New Jersey, Washington, Washington, DC, and California excluding the Bay Area; compensation may vary by work location.

What you will do

• Design and implement foundational layers for next-generation storage and streaming products.
• Build infrastructure software from scratch rather than configuring or operating existing data platforms.
• Own code from inception through release across the software stack.
• Architect globally distributed data consistency models and optimize storage engine performance.
• Design APIs for new data-centric products that operate on hirify.global’s global network.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying large-scale distributed systems or storage engine internals from scratch.
• Direct experience writing core components of storage or streaming systems.
• Experience debugging, profiling, and fixing race conditions, split-brain scenarios, and network partition failures at the infrastructure layer.
• Expert-level proficiency in Rust or C++ for systems programming.
• Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Rust, or C++ may be relevant to the role.

Nice to have

• Experience building time-series databases, log-structured merge-trees, or real-time stream-processing engines from the ground up.
• Academic or professional contributions to distributed systems research, including consensus, CRDTs, or database theory.
