Software Engineer - Backend (Java)

Location: Hybrid, Regeringsgatan 103, Stockholm, Sweden; expected office attendance approximately 2–3 days per week.

What you will do

• Build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for digital banking products.
• Contribute to the migration from on-premises systems and internal platforms to Google Cloud Platform.
• Work with Order Management Systems, streaming data, high transaction volumes, and data-driven development.
• Define standards for data modeling and scalable services in a modern cloud environment.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, designers, and autonomous engineering teams.
• Take operational ownership of critical systems, including rotating on-call duty where applicable.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of relevant professional experience.
• Solid experience building and maintaining distributed systems and APIs in Java.
• Experience developing and deploying cloud-native services.
• Curiosity about AI-assisted development and willingness to explore modern AI tools.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing skills.
• Ability to write well-structured, testable, and scalable code and contribute to product development and team practices.
• Comfort working in an environment where Swedish is still used in day-to-day communication, meetings, and documentation while English becomes the primary language.

Nice to have

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Google Spanner and/or BigQuery, preferably with dbt for data transformation.
• Experience with Gigaspaces or similar in-memory technologies.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and Kafka.
