Solution Engineer / Linux Platform Expert

Location: Rotkreuz, Switzerland; hybrid with approximately 50% onsite work. Contract engagement for 12 months, with possible extension; workload of 80–100%. Start ASAP, latest October 2026.

hirify.global is recruiting for a Switzerland-based pharmaceutical and medical technology client developing the Linux foundation for next-generation medical devices.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the custom Debian-based Linux platform, including kernel customisation, driver integration, and Debian package development and maintenance.
• Design, optimise, and maintain build, test, and release pipelines for reliable and reproducible software delivery.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis across software and hardware layers.
• Advise development teams on effective Linux platform use and support its continuous evolution.
• Improve system performance, security, automation, and engineering processes while promoting platform best practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on Linux systems engineering experience.
• Proven experience building, customising, or maintaining a Debian-based Linux distribution.
• Strong experience creating, patching, maintaining, and troubleshooting .deb packages.
• Excellent scripting and automation skills with Python and Shell.
• Solid understanding of Linux internals, operating systems, build systems including Make/CMake, testing, and packaging lifecycles.
• Experience with kernel-level components and low-level system integration.
• Professional working proficiency in English.
• Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving skills, a proactive continuous-improvement mindset, and clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Self-driven, collaborative, and quality-oriented working style.

Nice to have

• Experience with C/C++.
• Embedded Linux, ARM platforms, or hardware driver development.
• Docker, Kubernetes, KVM, Terraform, CI/CD, or AWS.
• Experience in medical technology, life sciences, or other highly regulated environments.
