Production Assistant, TODAY (Contract)

Location: New York City, United States. Hybrid position, generally requiring work from the office at least three days per week; flexible hours, weekends, breaking-news availability, and an in-person interview may be required.

Salary: $26–$31 per hour.

What you will do

• Create show rundowns and supporting paperwork for the live broadcast.
• Work with the TODAY editorial team, control room production team, producers, and video editors.
• Gather elements for segments and research under tight deadlines, including breaking news.
• Support the Show Podcast and send affiliate morning notes.
• Provide vacation and PTO coverage for essential broadcast positions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of news production and/or administrative experience.
• Exceptional computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and social media.
• Strong communication skills, editorial judgment, and interest in news, entertainment, and current events.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, and under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.
• Willingness to work in New York City.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of iNews, AVID Media Central/VPost, editing software, and Frequency software.
• Knowledge of NBC News programs, on-air correspondents, policies, guidelines, and practices.
• Confidentiality, discretion, organization, initiative, strong time management, and the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, apply data, and communicate with all levels of management.
