TL;DR
Robotics Software Engineer, Teleoperation (AI): Building safe, precise teleoperation systems for commercial robotic arms with an accent on robot control, operator hardware integration, and synchronized sensor data. Focus on inverse kinematics, latency-tolerant safety systems, shared autonomy, and reliable hardware deployment across long-distance links.

Location: Hybrid in Toronto GTA, Canada; New York is also listed as a location

Salary: $200K–$240K plus equity

Company

hirify.global builds data infrastructure for robotics and embodied AI, including global systems for data capture, labeling, and hardware-enabled workflows used to train and validate humanoid and embodied AI systems.

What you will do

  • Integrate commercial robotic arms and grippers through vendor SDKs, drivers, calibration, and common control interfaces.
  • Evaluate and integrate operator input devices including leader arms, VR controllers, 6-DoF mice, and haptics.
  • Develop and tune inverse kinematics, Cartesian control, and joint controllers for high-DOF robotic arms.
  • Implement safety limits, collision and workspace constraints, packet-loss handling, degraded-link behavior, and safe stops for long-distance teleoperation.
  • Prototype shared-autonomy features such as assisted grasping, motion smoothing, and task-level primitives.
  • Integrate cameras, depth sensors, wrist cameras, joint state, and force/torque sensors while maintaining timestamp synchronization and defining recorded data with the Teleop Platform Engineer.

Requirements

  • 3+ years writing production-level software for real robot hardware, preferably robotic arms, in industry or a serious research lab.
  • Strong C++ and/or Python skills, with comfort using Linux, handling real-time considerations, and debugging at the hardware boundary.
  • Knowledge of manipulator kinematics, including forward and inverse kinematics, Jacobians, singularities, joint limits, and at least one effective Cartesian control method.
  • Experience with a robotics middleware stack such as ROS 2, or a well-founded reason for not using one.
  • Experience integrating a robot through a vendor SDK rather than only in simulation.
  • Ability to own and carefully develop safety-relevant code.

Nice to have

  • Previous teleoperation system development, especially over unreliable or long-distance networks.
  • Experience with impedance or admittance control, force feedback, or haptics.
  • Familiarity with robotics learning data, demonstration collection, imitation learning, and episode formats.
  • Experience with motion planning libraries, simulation, or calibration tooling.
  • Networking or systems performance experience, including packet capture analysis and control-loop profiling.
  • Experience with VR/XR.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time hybrid work arrangement.
  • Equity is offered in addition to salary.
  • Inclusive work environment with equal-opportunity commitments and accommodations available during recruitment.
  • Occasional travel to robot sites is required when needed for hardware bring-up and in-person debugging.

Hiring process

  • Applications are evaluated with AI-assisted tools alongside human recruiting judgment.
  • Applicants do not need to meet every listed qualification; capability and trajectory are considered.
