Head of Data Science (AI)

Location: Berlin, Germany; onsite

What you will do

• Lead and grow a team of 7 data scientists through hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, feedback, and career development.
• Build a high-quality, ownership-oriented team culture with clear standards and rituals.
• Set the data science technical direction and roadmap with product and engineering leadership.
• Own production quality, operational excellence, evaluation, monitoring, and reproducibility across the ML lifecycle.
• Drive scalable machine learning data infrastructure and review designs, code, architecture, and modeling decisions.
• Represent data science to executives, customers, product, and engineering stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data science or machine learning, including 3+ years managing data scientists or ML engineers as direct reports.
• Experience building high-performing teams through hiring, people development, and team standards.
• Experience taking ML products from research to production and establishing reliable evaluation, monitoring, and reproducibility practices.
• Solid understanding of LLMs and strong measurement and statistical judgment for noisy outputs.
• Strong technical depth for reviewing architecture and modeling decisions, ideally in cloud-native environments.
• Clear communication with executives, engineers, and customers, including communicating uncertainty honestly.
• Good judgment under ambiguity and ownership of outcomes despite blockers.
