Control Systems Software Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Regular onsite presence required, usually 3–5 days per week; flexible working is supported where compatible with the role.

Salary: £43,702 annually, inclusive of a £3,300 specialist allowance.

What you will do

• Design, develop and maintain software for robotic and remote-handling systems, including graphical and human-machine interfaces.
• Specify, integrate, test and commission control systems and remote-handling equipment.
• Provide technical support for project delivery, including procurement of control-system components and engineering services.
• Deliver assigned work packages, contribute to research and development, and achieve project milestones.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on technical input for business development, proposals, bids and networking.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Control Systems Engineering, Robotics or a related subject.
• Demonstrable control-systems development experience, ideally in robotics or automation applications, supported by strong software-development skills and core engineering knowledge.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Experience with object-oriented design.

Nice to have

• Relevant engineering experience and programming skills in C++ and/or Python.
• Knowledge of software engineering practices including software lifecycle management, version control, documentation and optimisation.
• Experience with mathematical modelling of kinematic and dynamic models of physical systems.
• Professional registration or evidence of working towards professional registration.
• Experience with PLC systems, AI techniques including machine learning and computer vision, human-machine interface design and implementation, or servo-actuator control systems.
