TL;DR
AMHS Intelligent Systems Engineer (Manufacturing Automation): Designing and sustaining real-time automation software for 300mm wafer transport, reticle management, and automated stocker systems with an accent on distributed control, equipment reliability, and factory data intelligence. Focus on debugging multi-tier platforms, leading root-cause analysis and corrective actions, integrating new automation capabilities, and optimizing high-volume semiconductor manufacturing throughput.
Location: On-site in Hillsboro, Oregon, United States; willingness to work in a cleanroom, including long fab walks and work at heights, is required.
Annual salary: $128,880–$211,200 USD.
Company
Intel Foundry Technology & Manufacturing builds physical and digital infrastructure for high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, including automated material handling systems for wafer and reticle transport.
What you will do
Own AMHS equipment performance, reliability, uptime, preventive maintenance, monitoring, and major-impact escalations, with participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
Design, integrate, and deploy automation software for 300mm wafer transport, reticle management, and automated stocker systems.
Debug and optimize distributed control platforms across firmware, operating systems, databases, and real-time scheduling to improve tool availability and eliminate dispatch bottlenecks.
Lead new product introductions and cross-functional integration with IT Platforms, Networks, Middleware, and Module Equipment Engineering without disrupting high-volume manufacturing.
Drive root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, equipment qualification, and continuous-improvement projects.
Develop SQL queries, Python automation, and PowerBI dashboards for fleet-health monitoring, telemetry analysis, and proactive failure prevention; align global standards with SEMI protocols.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering/ECE, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline plus 3+ years of relevant industry experience, or a master’s degree in one of these fields plus 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
At least 2 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting complex robotics, equipment, distributed systems, industrial controls, or factory automation platforms.
Ability to work on-site in a cleanroom environment and support operational requirements, including 24x7 escalation coverage.
Nice to have
2+ years of semiconductor wafer fabrication experience, preferably in 300mm fab operations, and direct experience with automated material handling OEM systems.
SQL query development and scripting with Python, PowerShell, or VBScript for log analytics and automated monitoring.
Knowledge of SEMI E84, E87, E157, and E40 communication standards and Manufacturing Execution Systems integration.
Applied knowledge of factory physics, queueing theory, and Theory of Constraints for cycle-time and wafer-velocity optimization.
Experience with FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, or 8D structured problem-solving methods.
Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, equivalent CAD/CAM tools, or automated layout modeling.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
Culture & Benefits
Full-time experienced-hire position supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.
Competitive compensation with stock bonuses, health benefits, retirement benefits, and vacation.
Work directly with advanced automated storage, overhead transport, robotics, and semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure.
Collaborate with Intel’s worldwide AMHS engineering network and senior technical experts.
