TL;DR
Technical Program Manager for Compute Infrastructure (GPU/AI): Building the supply signal, planning platforms, and deployment programs that bring GPU capacity and compute clusters online across cloud and bare metal environments with an accent on capacity forecasting, site readiness, and infrastructure dependencies. Focus on coordinating AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI, Kubernetes, data center infrastructure, and delivery scorecards to reduce the time from capacity delivery to production use.

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid

Salary: $207K–$285K base pay annually, plus equity and potential performance-related bonuses.

Company

OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company building general-purpose AI systems with a focus on safe and broadly beneficial deployment.

What you will do

  • Own the GPU supply signal across providers, data centers, sites, and clusters, including delivery forecasts, readiness milestones, and expected production-use dates.
  • Define the roadmap, requirements, data models, integrations, quality checks, and adoption strategy for supply and planning tools.
  • Partner with Capacity Planning on supply-demand management, allocation planning, constraints, and scenario analysis.
  • Coordinate physical and logical readiness for new capacity, including site construction, power and cooling, equipment delivery, commissioning, CPU, storage, networking, GPU, Kubernetes, and foundational services.
  • Lead deployment plans across AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI, cloud providers, and bare metal environments; establish delivery scorecards and consistent readiness criteria.
  • Manage critical paths, dependencies, risks, escalations, stakeholder communication, automation, runbooks, and cluster bring-up improvements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience leading major technical programs, including compute infrastructure, hyperscaler deployments, capital projects, or similarly complex infrastructure work.
  • Degree in a hard science or engineering discipline, or demonstrated equivalent engineering expertise.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes deployments and experience with at least one major cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or OCI.
  • Familiarity with bare metal GPU capacity, provisioning, inventory, and planning systems.
  • Experience working with Capacity Planning teams on supply and demand management, allocations, constraints, and supporting tools.
  • Experience defining requirements for operational data and internal platforms, including data models, data quality, and tools adopted by engineering teams.
  • Understanding of site readiness, power and cooling, equipment delivery, commissioning, and ready-for-service milestones.
  • Record of owning complex technical programs across internal teams and external partners, including cloud providers, equipment suppliers, or data center infrastructure teams.
  • Technical ability to work with Engineering and Research, evaluate tradeoffs, create scalable processes, communicate clearly, and resolve issues in ambiguous environments; interest in the impacts of AGI.

Nice to have

  • Experience coordinating deployments across multiple cloud providers.

Culture & Benefits

  • Engineer-first technical program management environment with cross-functional collaboration across Engineering, Research, Product, Finance, Capacity Planning, and Data Center Infrastructure.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance; employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts; FSA and commuter accounts; and a 401(k) plan with employer match.
  • Paid parental, medical, caregiver, sick, and safe leave; paid holidays; flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non-exempt employees.
  • Mental health and wellness support, employer-paid basic life and disability coverage, and an annual learning and development stipend.
  • Office meals, eligible meal delivery credits, relocation support for eligible employees, charitable donation matching, and wellness stipends.
