TL;DR
Two Research Engineer / Research Fellow Positions in Edge AI and Intelligent Sensing (Edge AI/Embedded Systems): Designing, implementing, and experimentally validating intelligent sensing and Edge AI approaches for embedded platforms, accelerators, and real-world applications with an accent on efficient inference, multimodal perception, and hardware/software co-design. Focus on building and debugging prototypes for robotics, wearables, automotive, and industrial systems, and translating research into high-TRL deployments, publications, and open-source software.

Location: Turin, Italy. Start date: as soon as possible. Two positions are available.

Compensation: approximately €33,000 gross per year (±15%), depending on experience, qualifications, and performance.

Company

hirify.global performs application-oriented AI research focused on scientific advances, technology transfer, industrial impact, and real-world applications.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and experimentally validate approaches for intelligent sensing and Edge AI.
  • Develop and evaluate machine learning and deep learning methods for edge and embedded applications.
  • Integrate AI algorithms with embedded platforms, edge accelerators, MCUs, NPUs, FPGAs, and emerging sensing technologies.
  • Build, test, debug, and evaluate prototypes for robotics, wearables, automotive, industrial systems, and biosignal sensing.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, research prototypes, open-source software, and collaborations with academic and industrial partners.

Requirements

  • MSc degree in Electronic Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant research or industrial R&D experience, or an excellent recent MSc graduate with a strong experimental profile.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or similar languages.
  • Practical experience with machine learning or deep learning frameworks, particularly PyTorch or equivalent.
  • Strong interest in Edge AI, embedded intelligence, intelligent sensing, computer vision, or related areas.
  • Hands-on ability to build, test, debug, and evaluate real systems.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • A demonstrated research or engineering track record through publications, research projects, open-source contributions, a technical portfolio, or relevant industrial R&D experience.

Nice to have

  • Embedded systems and Edge AI deployment experience with MCUs, NPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, or other edge AI accelerators.
  • Model optimization and efficient inference, including quantization, pruning, and deployment on resource-constrained platforms.
  • Computer vision and intelligent sensing, including multimodal perception, sensor fusion, event-based cameras, depth cameras, radars, or other emerging sensing technologies.
  • Electronics prototyping and debugging, including PCB design and laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Experience with robotics and autonomous systems, wearables, automotive, or biosignal sensing.
  • Candidates are not expected to cover every listed area; technical depth, experimental ability, curiosity, and research potential are valued over complete technology coverage.

Culture & Benefits

  • Interdisciplinary work at the intersection of AI, embedded systems, sensing, and autonomous systems with substantial technical ownership.
  • Hands-on experimental research focused on real systems, real-world deployment, and industrial relevance.
  • Access to Peano, AI4I’s AI Foundry, with 148 NVIDIA GPUs across H200 and B200 architectures, plus dedicated experimental infrastructure.
  • International collaboration with universities, research institutions, technology companies, and industrial partners.
  • Support for publications, open-source research software, conference participation, research visits, travel, and scientific exchanges depending on the project and funding.
  • English is the working language in an international research environment.

Hiring process

  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until December 31, 2026.
  • Submit the required documents through the official application channel as a single PDF: CV, short motivation statement, optional technical links, up to two selected publications or representative research projects for candidates with research experience, and the names and contact information of two references if available.
  • Applications are evaluated for technical depth, experimental ability, research potential, originality, and alignment with the EIS Laboratory’s scientific interests.
