Senior Controls Engineer - Switchgear

Location: Onsite in East Peoria, Illinois, USA; other location: Chicago, Illinois, USA. Occasional travel required.

Salary: $100,300–$160,500 USD annually, plus eligibility for variable compensation including short-term and long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Develop detailed electrical designs for low- and medium-voltage switchgear and controls managing multiple generators and utility sources.
• Create schematics, component layouts, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, bills of material, construction drawings, and as-built documentation.
• Design and implement switchgear transfer, load management, generator, microgrid, and SCADA control schemes.
• Create or modify PLC and HMI programs for generator paralleling switchgear and project-specific controls.
• Coordinate with purchasing, suppliers, manufacturing, testing, product support, contractors, consultants, engineers, and end users.
• Conduct design reviews, support commissioning and troubleshooting, ensure compliance with applicable codes, and mentor associates.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, such as electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience programming industrial controls, generator controls, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial communication protocols.
• Experience implementing software used in 24x7 shop-floor environments.
• Knowledge of low- and medium-voltage power systems, grounding schemes, switchgear, ATS and generator systems, control sequences, installation plans, and test plans.
• Knowledge of installing, troubleshooting, designing, and programming automated control systems using PLCs, HMIs, PC controls, and distributed processing.
• Ability to read power control and automation schematics and blueprints and own PLC programming from concept through delivery.
• Knowledge of multiple PLC platforms, including Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Modicon/Schneider Electric, Siemens, and GE, and HMI software including Rockwell, Siemens, GE, and Wonderware is required.
• Knowledge of Modbus and Canbus communication protocols is required.
• Knowledge of electrical codes and standards including UL891, UL1558, UL Medium Voltage, and UL508A is required.
• Knowledge of multiple generator control platforms, including Woodward, DeepSea, ComAp, and DEIF, is required.
• Experience working across disciplines; strong customer focus, teamwork, communication, interpersonal, planning, time-management, adaptability, and attention-to-detail skills.
