Power Systems Automation Engineer

Location: Texas - Houston; also open in Michigan - Plymouth, Colorado - Lakewood, Illinois - Fairview Heights, and Minnesota - Minneapolis. The role requires at least 20% domestic travel.

Salary: $90,000–$145,000 per year; the range may differ for candidates hired at another level.

What you will do

• Plan, design, develop, configure, validate, install, commission, and support power system automation and protection projects.
• Implement data collection, logic controls, transfer schemes, SCADA, communication networks, FLISR, and advanced monitoring solutions using SEL products and related technologies.
• Develop functional design specifications, engineering studies, system architectures, and project engineering deliverables.
• Prepare design documents, reports, checklists, validation records, test reports, and commissioning documentation.
• Provide technical training and support to customers during project execution and system operation.
• Collaborate with customers, project managers, and cross-functional engineering teams while maintaining quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent work history meeting the position and skill requirements.
• Understanding of project engineering scope in relation to labor and equipment budgets.
• Professional communication skills for serving as a direct technical contact for customers and colleagues.
• Ability to analyze electrical one-line drawings, DC/AC schematics, and bills of materials.
• Experience with industry-standard communication protocols such as IEC-61850, DNP, and Modbus.
• Experience with the design and development of HMI applications.
• Willingness to travel at least 20% of the time domestically.
• The position considers candidates from Associate through Engineering III level.

Nice to have

• Experience with phase I/O-style project management.
• Experience configuring SEL products.
• Experience with AVEVA Wonderware, Copadata Zenon, Ignition, Cimplicity, EcoStruxure, or similar platforms.
• Experience with PLC programming.
• Experience with network troubleshooting tools.
