Software Engineer (C++)

Location: UK - Fareham; primarily office-based with the opportunity to work from home one day per week

What you will do

• Develop and maintain application software for Raymarine products using C++, Qt, and QML.
• Design and implement features for chartplotters and related marine products integrating navigation, charting, SONAR, RADAR, cameras, vessel information, sensors, peripherals, and connected services.
• Develop software in a Linux environment using GitLab, Jira, Confluence, and modern development workflows.
• Apply software design principles, design patterns, multithreaded development, maintainable design, and software modelling.
• Contribute across the full software lifecycle, including design, development, testing, release, maintenance, security, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with software engineers, test engineers, product managers, and user experience specialists across multiple projects and disciplines.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience developing multithreaded applications in C++ using Qt and QML.
• Good understanding of software design principles, design patterns, maintainable code practices, and modelling techniques such as UML.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with Linux development environments and familiarity with Docker or containerised development workflows.
• Experience developing automated tests and an appreciation of software quality practices.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, a self-motivated approach, and awareness of secure software development principles.

Nice to have

• Exposure to networking, internet, or communication technologies such as TCP/IP, UDP, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
• Experience working with large and complex codebases.
• Experience with algorithm development or GitLab pipeline configuration.
• Interest in contributing beyond feature development through Scrum Mastering, mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
